The Reds signed veteran left-handed pitcher Wade Miley to a minor-league deal last week, bringing him back to Cincinnati, where he previously pitched in 2020 and 2021 before being released and signing with the Cubs.

On Tuesday night, Miley joined the Reds Hot Stove to discuss his return.

“I loved my time in Cincinnati,” Miley said. “There’s just something about the Central Division that keeps pulling me back. I’m excited to put on a Reds uniform again and hopefully make an impact.”

After spending recent seasons with the Cubs and Brewers, Miley has kept an eye on the Reds’ young pitching talent, including Hunter Greene, Nick Lodolo, and Andrew Abbott.

“The talent is there, man. The Reds have been a good team for a couple of years now, but they’ve struggled to close out games late. There are a lot of really good arms in that clubhouse.”

At 38, Miley is focused on contributing in any way he can.

“My mentality has always been team-first. I’m still playing this game because I want to win a championship, and you can’t do that without all 26 guys working together. You have to believe in each other and care. I’m here to do whatever the team needs.”

Currently recovering from Tommy John surgery, Miley is targeting a return in May.

“It’s been frustrating, but I’m finally throwing again. The first eight months were brutal,” he admitted. “It felt like retirement was knocking on the door. I’d have a good week and feel motivated, then two bad weeks would make me want to quit again. But the last couple of weeks have been positive, and I’m looking forward to getting back into a baseball environment.”
