Veteran outfielder has agreed to a one-year, $1 million contract with the San Diego Padres.
He can earn up to $250,000 in performance bonuses, receiving $50,000 for reaching 200, 250, 300, 350, and 400 plate appearances.
The 35-year-old played for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros last season, hitting .211 with 10 home runs and 37 RBIs in 87 games. As a pinch hitter, he went 5-for-10 with two home runs, a triple, and seven RBIs.

A five-time Gold Glove winner, Heyward holds a career .256 batting average with 184 home runs, 718 RBIs, 125 stolen bases, and a .748 OPS over 15 MLB seasons with the Atlanta Braves (2010-14), St. Louis Cardinals (2015), Chicago Cubs (2016-22), Dodgers (2023-24), and Astros (2024).
He played a key role in the Cubs’ 2016 World Series championship and was an All-Star in 2010, finishing as the NL Rookie of the Year runner-up.
Heyward earned a $9 million salary last season with the Dodgers, who released him on Aug. 24. He then signed with the Astros on Aug. 28.
