After spending the 2023 season with the Indiana Fever, Erica Wheeler is moving on to the next stop in her WNBA career. As she embarks on this new chapter, a former teammate gave her a social media shoutout.

The Fever have had a busy offseason, bringing in several new players, which meant parting ways with others. Among those departing is Wheeler, who is reportedly set to sign with the Seattle Storm. Following the news, Kelsey Mitchell, a teammate of Caitlin Clark, shared a farewell message on her Instagram story, offering words of encouragement as Wheeler prepares for her next opportunity.

“go be YOU, Dub.” Mitchell wrote.

Mitchell entered free agency this offseason but ultimately chose to remain with the Fever, signing a one-year, $249,244 contract two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Wheeler’s second tenure with the Fever concludes after two seasons. In 2024, the veteran forward played 39 games but had a limited role, averaging 3.6 points, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 14 minutes per game. She will now aim to provide veteran leadership for the Storm in 2025.

During her second stint with the Indiana Fever, Erica Wheeler had the opportunity to play alongside one of the WNBA’s fastest-rising stars. Following the news of her departure, a fan resurfaced an old clip of Wheeler discussing Caitlin Clark.

The clip dates back to Clark’s arrival in Indiana when she was taking part in her first photoshoot in Fever gear. As a supportive veteran, Wheeler was present and even joined in for a few fun photos.

Early on, Wheeler recognized Clark’s potential. “She has an energy about her that is so undeniable,” Wheeler said at the time. “It speaks greatness. Just being around her makes you want to be better.”

Clark went on to deliver a historic rookie season, breaking multiple records and earning All-Star and Rookie of the Year honors while leading the Fever back to the postseason.

Now with the Seattle Storm, Wheeler will continue playing alongside elite talent, including Skylar Diggins-Smith, Gabby Williams, and Nneka Ogwumike.
