Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl had an impressive weekend. On Saturday, he secured a big win on the road against No. 2 Alabama, and on Sunday, he added a promising junior college recruit to his class, one who could make an immediate impact next season at Auburn.

Abdul Bashir, a 6-foot-7 combo guard from Casper College in Wyoming, announced his commitment to the Tigers on Sunday. He was also pursued by Texas A&M, Nebraska, Kansas State, and Seton Hall, among others.

Bashir has been a standout scorer in his two seasons at Casper College. As a freshman, he started 32 games and averaged 19.4 points per game, shooting 46.3% from the field, 45.3% from three, and 78.5% from the free-throw line.

This season, Bashir is averaging 25.3 points per game across 24 starts, shooting 42.1% from the field, 37.3% from beyond the arc, and 88.4% from the line. His shot attempts and minutes played have increased, and he’s averaging five more shots per game, including over 10 three-pointers per contest.

He began his sophomore season with six consecutive games of at least 24 points, including four games scoring over 30. One of his standout performances came on Nov. 8 when he scored 45 points, making 6 of 12 three-pointers and hitting all 9 of his free throws. Bashir has scored 30 or more points in nine games this season, with a career-high 47 points on Dec. 6.

In addition to his scoring, Bashir has averaged 3.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.3 steals per game over his two years at Casper College.

Depending on the outcome of the lawsuit involving Vanderbilt football’s Diego Pavia, Bashir could have two or more years of eligibility remaining at Auburn.
