BREAKING: Buffalo Bills Reportedly Cut Ties With Former Super Bowl MVP
The Buffalo Bills have stayed competitive in the AFC playoff race with their recent roster moves, but they haven’t quite made the leap to reach the Super Bowl.
A similar scenario this offseason could lead the team to reshuffle its roster, creating more flexibility to make key free agency moves aimed at finally overcoming the Kansas City Chiefs.
As a result, one Bills writer believes a former Super Bowl MVP might be a prime candidate to be cut heading into the offseason.
Von Miller Named as a Potential Roster Cut for Buffalo
Von Miller appears to be a strong candidate for future induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but his status with the Buffalo Bills for the 2025 season remains uncertain, according to Sara Lawson of Buffalo Rumblings via SB Nation.
Lawson described Miller’s situation as a straightforward offseason decision, noting that his 2025 cap hit is set at $23.8 million. Releasing him would provide the Bills with just over $8 million in savings.

Buffalo’s salary cap challenges will require some maneuvering, as Spotrac projects the team to be $12 million over the cap entering the new league year. To address this, the Bills will likely need to make cuts or restructure contracts.
One potential option, Lawson suggested, is a negotiated pay cut similar to last year. Since releasing Miller would leave a $15.4 million dead cap hit, the Bills might opt to restructure his contract, allowing him to stay while reducing his cap impact.
Lawson further noted that, because Miller’s contract is non-guaranteed, he may be open to lowering his $17.1 million base salary again in favor of an incentive-based deal. This could create cap savings similar to a release while keeping him on the roster. However, the key question remains: What is a 36-year-old Von Miller worth, and would that value be better utilized elsewhere?
Is Von Miller Still an Elite Pass Rusher?
If one were to evaluate Miller’s defensive contributions with the Bills, it could be argued that his production hasn’t justified his high salary. Over 36 regular-season games with Buffalo, he has recorded just 14 sacks and 41 total tackles.
Furthermore, Miller will turn 35 in March, and there aren’t many elite pass rushers performing at a high level in their late 30s. His last season with double-digit sacks was in 2018 when Tom Brady was still with the Patriots.
While tallying six sacks at 35 is commendable given his stage in the career, if he and the team can’t agree on a more cap-friendly deal, the former Super Bowl MVP could become a salary-cap casualty this offseason.
