Before becoming an NFL star, Allen made his mark at Wyoming.

The press release highlights his impact at the university:

Allen, widely regarded as the most dynamic and high-profile player in Wyoming football history, helped bring national attention to the program. He led the Cowboys to back-to-back eight-win seasons, an appearance in the 2016 Mountain West Championship, and two bowl games. In his collegiate career, Allen amassed 5,833 total yards—5,066 passing and 767 rushing—while accounting for 57 touchdowns (44 passing, 12 rushing, one receiving). He graduated in December 2017 with a degree in social science before being selected seventh overall by the Buffalo Bills in the 2018 NFL Draft, making him Wyoming’s highest-ever draft pick.

Allen earned second-team All-Mountain West honors in 2016 and an honorable mention in 2017. A two-time team captain, he was also a finalist for multiple national awards and was named MVP of the 2017 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Additionally, he competed in the Senior Bowl, where he was named the North Team’s Most Outstanding Player.

In the 2024 NFL season, Allen was named the league’s Most Valuable Player after scoring 41 touchdowns while committing a career-low eight turnovers. It marked his fifth straight season with at least 40 touchdowns, an NFL record.

Allen isn’t the only former Buffalo Bills player in Wyoming’s 2025 Hall of Fame class. Safety John Wendling, a sixth-round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft (No. 184 overall), played for the Bills from 2007-2009 before spending four seasons with the Detroit Lions (2010-2013).
