BREAKING: Josh Allen Reacts to Bills Signing Top WR to $60.2 Million Extension
Before the 2024 NFL season, the Buffalo Bills traded away their top wide receiver, Stefon Diggs, and adopted a committee approach emphasizing shared production. Many expected quarterback Josh Allen and the Bills’ offense to decline without a clear No. 1 target, but Buffalo defied expectations by securing their fifth straight AFC East title and coming within one win of the Super Bowl. Allen had the best season of his career, earning the AP Most Valuable Player award.
Among his receiving corps, Khalil Shakir, a 2022 fifth-round pick, emerged as Allen’s most dependable target. Shakir led the team with 76 receptions for 821 yards and four touchdowns, excelling in the playoffs with 18 catches on 20 targets for 174 yards. Although he still had a year left on his rookie deal, Buffalo rewarded him with a major extension on February 25.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Shakir and the Bills agreed to a four-year extension worth up to $60.2 million, including $32 million guaranteed and $18 million in the first year, keeping him in Buffalo through 2029. His 605 yards after catch ranked second in the league behind Ja’Marr Chase. Josh Allen, thrilled with the deal, quickly shared the announcement on his Instagram Stories.
The Bills celebrated the signing on X, posting, “Here to stay!! Khalil Shakir has agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension through 2029.” The move was widely praised, with Trainwreck Sports’ Mike Bundt calling Shakir “the perfect weapon” for Buffalo’s offense, while 13WHAM’s Mike Catalana noted that Shakir continues to improve and remains a key piece for Allen and the Bills’ attack. However, Catalana also suggested the team still needs a true No. 1 receiver on the outside.
