Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving, who played one season at Duke in 2010-11, has suffered a torn ACL in his left knee. The injury occurred in the first quarter of Monday night’s 122-98 home loss to the Sacramento Kings, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Meanwhile, Mavericks center and fellow Duke product Dereck Lively II remains sidelined with a right ankle fracture sustained in mid-January.
Through 50 games this season, the 32-year-old Irving is averaging 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 1.3 steals while shooting 47.3% from the field, 40.1% from three, and 91.6% from the free-throw line.
Dallas, last season’s Western Conference champions, currently holds a 32-30 record and sits 10th in the West.
Irving isn’t the only former Blue Devil to have his season disrupted by a knee injury—Philadelphia 76ers rookie Jared McCain, a top contender for NBA Rookie of the Year, underwent surgery in December.
