BREAKING: St. Louis Cardinals Fans Receives Big News Involving Nolan Arenado
The St. Louis Cardinals explored trading Nolan Arenado this offseason, but the veteran third baseman remains with the team. With the MLB regular season just three weeks away, Arenado is preparing for 2025.
Arenado has been with St. Louis since they acquired him from the Colorado Rockies in February 2021. Over four seasons, the eight-time All-Star has accumulated 16.6 WAR in 601 games while hitting .271 with 372 RBIs. His career, which began in 2013, includes 341 home runs, four top-five National League MVP finishes, and 10 Gold Gloves.

“My expectation is to be here on Opening Day,” Arenado told Jon Heyman of the New York Post. “Until they tell me something’s going on – then I guess I will adjust. But until I hear that, I’m locked in.”

The Cardinals find themselves in an unusual position, undergoing a rebuild that doesn’t necessarily align with keeping Arenado. The team aims to give more playing time to younger, less-experienced players in 2025. With Arenado entrenched at third base, opportunities at the position for players like Nolan Gorman, Brendan Donovan, and Thomas Saggese are limited. Gorman will instead play second base, moving Donovan to left field and potentially leaving Saggese without a roster spot.
Even so, retaining Arenado isn’t necessarily a setback for St. Louis. A player of his caliber provides value both on the field and as a veteran leader.
The Cardinals will begin the 2025 season on March 27 against the Minnesota Twins.
