BREAKING: Bills Open to Bringing Back Former Pass Rusher After Abrupt Release
The Buffalo Bills have released veteran edge rusher Von Miller, though a reunion remains a possibility.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on March 9 that the Bills parted ways with the former All-Pro but could consider bringing him back on a different contract.
“The #Bills are releasing pass-rusher Von Miller, per me and @TomPelissero,” Rapoport posted on X. “Miller is set to turn 36 years old before the 2025 season, and Buffalo makes the move now. Both sides, however, are open to a return.”
Insiders Predicted Von Miller’s Release
Although the Bills had not publicly hinted at releasing Von Miller, the move—coming just before free agency—was widely anticipated by insiders.
In February, Bleacher Report’s Alex Ballentine predicted Miller had “little to no chance” of returning on his current contract, which would have paid him $23.8 million in 2025.
“Miller was still an important cog in the defensive front,” Ballentine wrote. “He only played 25 percent of the snaps, but he was third on the team in sacks with six. If the Bills believe they can replace that production for cheaper than the cap savings they get by cutting Miller then that makes sense.”

The Bills had shown significant faith in Miller, sticking with him through a difficult 2023 season after he returned from a torn ACL. The team also supported him during his four-game suspension following domestic abuse allegations last offseason.
After Buffalo’s AFC Championship loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Miller expressed his desire to stay with the team.
“However long my key card works in this building, I’m gonna keep coming up in here and I’m going to keep coming in and trying to make [a Super Bowl] happen,” Miller said during locker cleanout day. “I want to be here. I plan on being a Buffalo Bill for sure.”
