BREAKING: Commanders receives major risky Jaw-dropping news that got fans stunned!!!
Tutu Atwell’s recent contract extension is likely to catch the attention of Dyami Brown.
The Los Angeles Rams secured a two-year, $46 million deal with free agent wide receiver Davante Adams. However, a more modest contract with a lesser-known receiver could have a more significant impact on who ends up on the Washington Commanders’ roster in 2025.
After acquiring Deebo Samuel Sr., the Commanders had no real interest in signing a high-priced veteran like Adams. However, they might have been considering bringing back Dyami Brown to serve as a secondary option behind Samuel and Terry McLaurin.
The contract Los Angeles gave to Tutu Atwell could complicate such a move.
Atwell was drafted 25 spots ahead of Brown in the 2021 NFL Draft. He is a smaller, faster, and more versatile player who excels in jet sweeps and kick returns, while Brown, a North Carolina product, is more of a traditional Z receiver with solid size and speed.
Tutu Atwell’s deal complicates Commanders’ bid to re-sign Dyami Brown
Both Tutu Atwell and Dyami Brown have shown glimpses of their potential but have been somewhat disappointing relative to their draft positions.
Pro Bowl wide receivers Nico Collins and Amon-Ra St. Brown were both selected after Atwell and Brown.

Atwell saw increased playing time in 2023 when starting receivers Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp were sidelined. Now that Kupp could be on the trade block, it seems Rams coach Sean McVay has decided Atwell can play a key role in the offense this season. So much so, in fact, that they gave him a one-year, $10 million extension to stay with the Rams.
For a player who has been on the field for less than half of the Rams’ offensive snaps over the past three seasons, this contract is a surprise. The fact that the entire amount is guaranteed is even more unexpected.
Despite his inconsistency, Atwell has been a more productive player than Brown throughout their careers. However, the difference isn’t significant.
Atwell’s new deal sets a baseline for Brown’s agent. While Brown won’t command the same amount, he will likely ask for a similar deal, with a significant portion guaranteed.
It’s hard to imagine general manager Adam Peters offering Brown a contract anywhere near the one Atwell received, especially in terms of guarantees. Peters has the financial resources to make such a deal, but it doesn’t seem like a smart move.
Peters has shown a tendency not to overpay for players whose performance hasn’t lived up to their potential. This has been the case with Brown during his time with the Commanders, despite his contributions in the playoffs.
With McLaurin and Samuel already in place, and the emergence of Luke McCaffrey, Peters has a solid foundation to work with. Several mid-tier free agents have been more productive than Brown. While this year’s draft may not have elite talent at the top, it offers solid depth.
Additionally, veterans like Noah Brown, Olamide Zaccheaus, and K.J. Osborn could provide better value if Brown’s asking price is close to Atwell’s.
Brown has been overlooked and brought back several times in his career. There were moments when it seemed like he would be cast off like many of Ron Rivera’s draft picks, but he held on and performed late in the season.
By the end of 2024, Brown will be one of just 11 players out of the 33 drafted by Rivera between 2020 and 2023 still with the Commanders.
There has always been a strong possibility that 2024 would be his last year in Washington. With Atwell’s fully guaranteed $10 million deal setting a financial precedent, Brown’s departure seems more likely than ever.
