Breaking: Pro Bowl Cornerback Signs Contract With Indianapolis Colts
Charvarius Ward, a cornerback with seven years of experience, has agreed to a new deal with the Indianapolis Colts. Ward, who was originally an undrafted free agent, played the 2024 season with the San Francisco 49ers and has also had stints with the Kansas City Chiefs and Dallas Cowboys.

The San Francisco 49ers entered the season with Super Bowl ambitions but failed to reach their potential. Charvarius Ward, once known as a lockdown cornerback, struggled through what could be considered the worst season of his career. Despite starting 12 games, he finished with no interceptions, seven passes defended, 54 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, and a disappointing 56.2 PFF grade, ranking 93rd out of 118 eligible players. The 49ers, plagued by injuries, ultimately missed the playoffs.
Ward began his NFL journey as an undrafted free agent in 2018, signing with the Dallas Cowboys. After a tough offseason competing for a roster spot, Ward was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs for backup offensive guard Parker Ehinger. He spent most of his rookie year in a backup role but earned a starting position in 2019.

In his first season as a starter, Ward played a key role in helping the Chiefs win their first Super Bowl of the Patrick Mahomes era. He finished that season with two interceptions, 10 passes defended, one forced fumble, and 74 tackles.
Following two more seasons with Kansas City, Ward signed with the San Francisco 49ers. He thrived in his new role during his first season, recording one interception, 11 passes defended, 87 tackles, and three tackles-for-loss. Ward’s strong play earned him a Pro Bowl selection in 2023, along with Second-Team All-Pro honors and an impressive 84.7 PFF grade, ranking fifth-best in the league.
