After struggling with injuries in 2022 and 2023, Joey Bosa managed to stay relatively healthy during his one season under head coach Jim Harbaugh with the Chargers. However, despite playing in 14 games, he never fully regained his previous form. He was named to the Pro Bowl largely due to his reputation, finishing the season with modest numbers: five sacks, 22 tackles, five tackles-for-loss, 13 quarterback hits, and a 61.1 PFF grade. Following the season, the Chargers released him, freeing up over $25 million in cap space.

Bosa entered the NFL as a first-round pick in the 2016 draft, selected by the Chargers. The Ohio State product made an immediate impact, playing 12 games with 11 starts in his rookie season. He finished with 10.5 sacks, 41 tackles, 17 tackles-for-loss, and 21 quarterback hits, earning Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.

Building on his strong debut, Bosa became one of the NFL’s top pass rushers in 2017. He started all 16 games, posting 12.5 sacks, 70 tackles, 11 tackles-for-loss, 21 quarterback hits, and an impressive 88.8 PFF grade, while earning his first Pro Bowl selection. Though injuries limited him to just seven games in 2018, Bosa returned to form in 2019 and continued his dominance as a pass rusher.

From 2019 to 2021, Bosa made three consecutive Pro Bowls, recording at least 7.5 sacks each year and excelling both in pass rushing and against the run. He signed a contract extension before the 2020 season, justifying the investment early. However, recurring injuries made him an easier cap casualty this year.

Throughout his career since signing his rookie deal, Bosa has accumulated 72 sacks, 343 tackles, 87 tackles-for-loss, and 156 quarterback hits.
