BREAKING: 2-Time Super Bowl Champion Signs Contract With Washington Commanders
Nine-year veteran cornerback Jonathan Jones has agreed to a one-year contract with the Washington Commanders. The former undrafted free agent and two-time Super Bowl champion had spent his entire career with the New England Patriots before making the move.

Jonathan Jones experienced a decline in performance during his first season without Bill Belichick, much like the rest of the New England Patriots. Under the leadership of an inexperienced Jerod Mayo and defensive coordinator Demarcus Covington, Jones and the defense struggled to adjust. Playing in all 17 games, he finished the season without an interception, recorded six passes defended, 58 tackles, and earned a 60.7 PFF grade, ranking 79th out of 117 eligible players.

Jones entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent following the 2016 draft, signing with the Patriots. Initially contributing on special teams with occasional appearances as a slot corner, he played a role in the team’s Super Bowl 51 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. In 2017, he earned a larger role but was sidelined for the playoffs after tearing his Achilles in the Divisional Round against the Tennessee Titans.

Upon returning, Jones became a key part of New England’s defense for the next six seasons, establishing himself as one of the league’s top slot cornerbacks. As one of the few players from the Patriots’ dynasty to outlast Belichick, he was at his peak in 2019 and 2020 while showcasing his versatility in both the slot and outside corner positions.
Over his career, Jones has played in 132 games with 71 starts, recording 11 interceptions, 57 passes defended, 2.5 sacks, and 436 tackles.
