BREAKING: Pittsburgh Steelers lose massive offensive lineman
Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman is joining the Washington Commanders on a one-year deal after previously signing a two-year contract with Pittsburgh.
Herbig missed the 2024 season due to a torn rotator cuff suffered during training camp, which solidified Zach Frazier as the team’s starting center. The injury occurred late in practice, forcing Herbig to exit and not return, with Frazier handling first-team reps for the remainder of the season.
Capable of playing center or either guard position, Herbig provides versatility as an interior lineman. He is better suited for a gap scheme, which aligns more with the Commanders’ approach compared to the Steelers’ wide-zone system under Arthur Smith.

Pittsburgh still needs depth on the interior offensive line, despite re-signing Ryan McCollum earlier in the offseason. They may look for another versatile lineman like Herbig to provide insurance against injuries.
