PEORIA, Ariz. (AP) — San Diego Padres right-hander Matt Waldron sustained a mild oblique strain while warming up before pitching in a spring training game on Friday.

Waldron was set to face the Texas Rangers but was sidelined by the injury, which could delay his start to the season.

“Obliques take time to heal,” manager Mike Shildt told MLB.com. “We’ll reassess, but he’ll need rest for a period that’s yet to be determined.”
