ESPN Sources: Former Bills WR reached agreement on three-year, $69 million deal including $26 million guaranteed in Free-agency
After a year away from the AFC East, former Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs is joining the New England Patriots on a three-year, $69 million deal, which includes $26 million guaranteed, as reported by Adam Schefter.
Diggs was traded to the Bills in 2020 and had some of the best seasons of his career with Josh Allen as his quarterback. Throughout his time in Buffalo, he consistently surpassed 1,000 receiving yards and was targeted no fewer than 154 times each season. As Allen’s top target, Diggs played a key role in boosting the Bills’ offense.
However, tension between Diggs and the Bills began to surface toward the end of the 2022 season. This continued as the Bills realized they could succeed without him, leading to the decision to part ways. Offensive coordinator Joe Brady preferred an “everybody eats” approach that no longer revolved around Diggs.
The Bills traded Diggs to the Houston Texans, absorbing a dead cap hit of over $30 million, which highlighted the strained relationship between the player and the team.

Diggs played only eight games with the Texans before tearing his ACL, which kept him out for most of the 2024 season. As a free agent for the first time in his career, Diggs visited the Patriots and ultimately signed with them. He will face the Bills this season.
Patriots signing Stefon Diggs should make Bills fans laugh outloud

At 31 years old, coming off a torn ACL, and with a history of conflicts with past teams, Stefon Diggs’ signing by the New England Patriots seems like a risky move. For New England, it could turn out to be a big mistake. However, for Buffalo Bills fans, this is a move to celebrate.

While Diggs does bring an immediate upgrade to the Patriots’ receiving corps, recovering from a major injury doesn’t typically lead to a quick comeback. Additionally, with quarterback Drake Maye just entering his second year, there’s a chance that Maye could struggle, especially if he starts forcing passes to Diggs rather than distributing the ball to other playmakers on the offense.
It’s unclear whether Diggs will face the Bills twice this season, but if he does, you can bet that Bills Mafia will have plenty to say about his departure.
