Breaking News: Sabres Signed Contract With Another Top Prospect

Earlier on Sunday morning, the Buffalo Sabres made an official announcement regarding one of their promising young forwards, Anton Wahlberg, who has now been reassigned to their AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans.

Wahlberg recently concluded his season with the Malmo Redhawks in the SHL after his team fell short of qualifying for the 2023-24 SHL playoffs.

Selected 39th overall by the Sabres in the 2023 NHL Draft, Wahlberg has displayed respectable performance for an 18-year-old at the SHL level, as well as in international competitions.

During this season with the Redhawks, Wahlberg contributed five goals and 10 points. He also contributed one goal and three points for Team Sweden in the most recent IIHF World Junior Championships, resulting in a silver medal finish.

Given his young age, it remains uncertain where Wahlberg will ultimately fit into the Sabres’ lineup, but he has demonstrated potential as an above-average third-line center.

With his notable ability to maintain possession of the puck, Wahlberg possesses the skills to prolong offensive opportunities for his team and facilitate zone entries.

Transitioning to the AHL, Wahlberg will now have the chance to aid the Americans in their pursuit of a playoff spot. Currently, the Americans are tied with the Toronto Marlies for third place in the North Division, positioning them on the verge of securing a top-three spot, which would grant them direct entry into the Division Semifinals of the Calder Cup playoffs.
