Sarah Strong etched her name into women’s college basketball history following the UConn Huskies’ national championship victory.

The standout freshman delivered a dominant performance on Sunday, leading the Huskies to an 82-59 win over the South Carolina Gamecocks with 24 points and 15 rebounds.

With that effort, Strong broke the record for most points scored by a freshman in a single NCAA Tournament. She finished the tournament with 114 points, surpassing the previous mark of 111 set by Tennessee legend Tamika Catchings.

The NCAA celebrated her feat after UConn clinched the title, posting, “Sarah’s Stats are Strong,” alongside a graphic showcasing her achievement.

Strong averaged 19.0 points per game across UConn’s six tournament matchups, which included wins over Arkansas State, South Dakota State, Oklahoma, USC, UCLA, and South Carolina.

While her title-game performance was her most impactful, she also scored 22 points in consecutive games during the Elite Eight (vs. USC) and Final Four (vs. UCLA).

Strong’s remarkable tournament not only helped UConn secure its first championship since 2016 but also signaled her rise as one of the sport’s brightest young stars.
