West Virginia University men’s basketball head coach Ross Hodge has officially added Mike Randle to his coaching staff as an assistant.
A Houston native, Randle brings 11 years of coaching experience, most recently spending two seasons as an assistant at North Texas.
“Mike is one of the top rising coaches in the country,” Hodge said. “He builds strong relationships, has a national network, and is deeply committed to developing young men both on and off the court.”
During the 2023-24 season, Randle helped guide North Texas to 27 wins and a trip to the NIT semifinals. The Mean Green finished third nationally in scoring defense (60.1 points per game), just behind Houston, and posted the second-best offensive and defensive efficiency in the AAC. Their 27 wins were the second-most in program history, and five players earned all-conference recognition. In Randle’s first year (2022-23), UNT won 19 games and advanced to the NIT’s second round, achieving the highest win percentage by a first-year staff in school history. Randle played a key role in recruiting and mentoring standout guards Jason Edwards and Atin Wright, both of whom earned first-team all-conference honors. Over his two years in Denton, North Texas won 46 games.

“I’m extremely grateful and excited to join the Mountaineer basketball program,” Randle said. “I appreciate Coach Hodge and the administration for this incredible opportunity.”
Before North Texas, Randle served one season at Southeastern Louisiana, where the team won 18 games and tied for third in the Southland Conference. Under his guidance, the Lions were among the national leaders in scoring, three-point shooting, and ball security, while Boogie Anderson earned first-team all-conference honors.

Randle previously made his mark in junior college basketball, including a 28-win season at Indian River State College in 2021-22 that featured a conference title and a first-team All-American in AJ Cajuste. In 2020-21, he coached at Kilgore College, helping the team reach the NJCAA National Tournament for the first time since 2013. One of his players, Dantwan Grimes, went on to transfer to Baylor.
Earlier in his career, Randle coached at Cornerstone Christian in San Antonio and at DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Florida.
He is a 2015 graduate of Eastern New Mexico State and began his playing career at Paris Junior College, where he helped lead the team to a NJCAA Region XIV title.
