Christian Hamilton, a junior wide receiver from Harrisburg, North Carolina, has decided to enter the transfer portal. The six-foot, 190-pound pass-catcher was a four-star prospect when he committed to Mack Brown and the Tar Heels out of Hickory Ridge High School.

Despite high expectations, Hamilton hasn’t made a major impact in his first two seasons, tallying just 10 catches for 179 yards and a single touchdown. That lone score, however, was a highlight-reel moment in last season’s matchup against Charlotte.

It’s unfortunate that Tar Heel fans won’t get to see how Hamilton’s development would’ve played out in Chapel Hill, but such moves are increasingly common in today’s college football landscape. Hamilton will now search for a program that better aligns with his abilities and offers a clearer path to playing time.

Back in Chapel Hill, the coaching staff—led by veterans like Bill Belichick and Michael Lombardi—will now turn their attention to the portal in search of experienced receivers who can make an instant impact.
