BREAKING: 49ers Offensive Lineman Suspended Six Games for PEDs

mThe NFL just handed 49ers offensive lineman Isaac Alarcón a six-game suspension without pay after he was reportedly caught using performance-enhancing drugs.

To clarify, Alarcón isn’t currently part of the 49ers’ 53-man roster. He signed a reserve/future deal back in January 2024, was waived in August, then rejoined the practice squad. He recently inked another reserve/future contract, but even before the suspension, he was a long shot to make the final roster. At this point, his best bet is probably returning to the practice squad once his suspension is up.

Alarcón first joined the Cowboys’ practice squad in 2020 and stayed there through 2022, meaning he’s been hovering on the edge of an active roster for nearly five years. If he hasn’t cracked a 53-man by now, chances are he never will.

That said, the NFL is always on the hunt for offensive linemen—especially durable ones who can survive a full 17-game season. A reliable lineman who can do that is suddenly a $15 million asset. So, in theory, Alarcón still has some upside.

Realistically though, this suspension doesn’t impact the 49ers. The real blow is to Alarcón’s bank account—he’s losing over a third of his weekly earnings. That stings.

Side note: Isn’t it curious how PED suspensions often involve players you barely hear about?

Just something to think about.
