Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid expressed his deep admiration for cornerback L’Jarius Sneed, labeling him as one of his “all-time favorite guys” following Sneed’s trade to the Tennessee Titans.

Sneed played a pivotal role in the Chiefs’ victorious Super Bowl LVIII campaign last season. However, due to salary cap constraints, the team had to part ways with him.

Both Sneed and fellow defensive cornerstone Chris Jones were approaching the end of their contracts. In February, the Chiefs granted Sneed permission to explore trade options to prevent losing him without compensation. Although Jones secured a lucrative five-year, $95 million contract extension, Sneed was ultimately traded to the Titans. The deal involved a 2025 third-round draft pick and a swap of 2024 seventh-round selections. It is anticipated that Sneed will negotiate a new contract with Tennessee.

Why L'Jarius Sneed Trade Netted So Little Value For Chiefs

At the annual league meeting, Reid spoke about Sneed’s departure, expressing his immense fondness for the 27-year-old. He described Sneed as not only a remarkable player but also an outstanding human being, highlighting his resilience and talent on the field.

Reid acknowledged that Sneed’s departure was necessitated by salary cap considerations, emphasizing the challenges of managing the team’s financial constraints. Despite the difficult decision, Reid emphasized the team’s affection for Sneed and praised his contributions as a key defensive asset, particularly his role in covering the opponent’s top receivers.
