BREAKING NEWS: Tyler Smith and Toby Boulet Sends Strong Message To Lethbridge schools
A survivor of the 2018 Humboldt Broncos bus crash, Tyler Smith, emphasized the significance of mental health awareness and kindness during his visit to Lethbridge students on Thursday.
Smith, who was part of the Broncos team alongside Logan Boulet from Lethbridge, one of the victims of the tragic collision on April 6, 2018, delivered two presentations at Winston Churchill High School and G.S. Lakie Middle School on March 28, 2024. Both schools had Logan as a student.
These presentations were part of Green Shirt Day, an initiative aimed at honoring Logan’s legacy, commemorating the lives lost and affected by the accident, and promoting organ donation awareness.
Tyler Smith, speaking after his presentation at G.S. Lakie, expressed the significance of the occasion, stating, “Today is a special day, being able to wear the green shirt is something that is incredibly important to me, and the fact that we can raise awareness together is invaluable.”
During his talk, the 25-year-old recounted his experiences as a member of the Broncos team and discussed his struggles with mental health following the tragic incident.
Tyler was accompanied by Toby Boulet, Logan’s father, during the school events. Boulet emphasized the importance of Tyler’s presence, stating, “It’s incredibly meaningful to the Boulet family that Tyler came today.” He highlighted the value of Tyler sharing his perspective and intertwining it with Logan’s story, hoping it would prompt important conversations among students.
Tyler and his fiancée, Kat Kastner, gained national attention last year when they won season nine of The Amazing Race Canada. Throughout the competition, Tyler aimed to represent his former teammates and friends who lost their lives in the crash.
Earlier in the week, Lethbridge City Council unanimously voted to declare April 7 as Green Shirt Day annually. Mayor Blaine Hyggen expressed his desire to institutionalize this declaration to continuously highlight Logan Boulet’s enduring impact.
Following Logan’s passing, his decision to donate his organs saved six lives, sparking a significant increase in organ donor registrations across Canada, a phenomenon dubbed “The Logan Boulet Effect.”
