Debates are ongoing about the Broncos’ draft strategy, from selecting the best player available at No. 12 to trading back for more assets. There’s also the chance they take a significant risk by moving up to secure a top quarterback.

With New England Patriots executive Eliot Wolf expressing openness to trading back, it’s now conceivable for the Broncos to aim for a top 3 draft position. This development opens up the possibility of landing high-caliber quarterbacks like LSU’s Jayden Daniels and UNC’s Drake Maye.

ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio recently discussed the intense competition among teams vying for quarterbacks this spring, suggesting that up to seven teams in the top 12 are in the hunt. He hinted that if Washington selects Jayden Daniels at No. 2, the Patriots’ pick at No. 3 could be available for trade.

While this may seem like wishful thinking, it’s worth noting Sean Payton’s draft history, which indicates a preference for trading up rather than back. Paolantonio also mentioned USC’s Caleb Williams and Daniels as likely top picks, with the Broncos, Minnesota Vikings, and New York Giants potentially in talks with New England for the No. 3 pick.

Paolantonio emphasized the Broncos’ need for a quarterback, especially after the departure of Russell Wilson. He suggested Drake Maye as a suitable option if top choices like Williams and Daniels are unavailable.

Maye, coming off a strong season at North Carolina, is considered a top prospect for his size, arm talent, and athleticism. Paolantonio highlighted Maye’s potential to develop under Payton and become a starter by 2025.

Despite other team needs, Paolantonio stressed the importance of securing Maye in the draft, given the Broncos’ situation.
