In a move that signals the Yankees’ long-term commitment to one of their brightest young stars, the New York Yankees have signed shortstop Anthony Volpe to a five-year contract extension worth $72 million, the team announced Tuesday.
Volpe, 24, has quickly become the face of the Yankees’ infield since debuting in 2023. After capturing a Gold Glove in his rookie season and solidifying himself as a dependable presence both offensively and defensively, the Yankees front office wasted no time locking in their homegrown talent.

“This is a dream come true,” Volpe said during a press conference at Yankee Stadium. “Wearing the pinstripes means everything to me. To know I’ll be doing it for years to come—it’s really special.”
The deal, which buys out his remaining arbitration years and includes a club option for a sixth season, is seen as a team-friendly contract given Volpe’s upside and market value. According to sources, the extension includes performance bonuses and a limited no-trade clause.
General Manager Brian Cashman praised Volpe’s leadership, work ethic, and consistency: “Anthony represents everything we want in a Yankee. He plays hard, handles pressure like a veteran, and sets the tone for our clubhouse.”

Through the first month of the 2025 season, Volpe is hitting .236 with 5 home runs, 22 RBIs, and stellar defense. Beyond stats, his poise and maturity have endeared him to fans and teammates alike.
“Anthony has been the heartbeat of this team,” said Yankees captain Aaron Judge. “He shows up every day ready to work. Couldn’t be happier to have him with us long term.”
Volpe’s extension echoes previous commitments the Yankees have made to cornerstone players like Judge and Gerrit Cole, and it reinforces the franchise’s shift toward building around both stars and youth.
With Volpe now secured, the Yankees turn their attention to the future—one they hope includes October glory and a return to the Canyon of Heroes.
