Fort Thomas Highlands offensive lineman Max Merz, who committed to Louisville last September, has locked in his official visit with the Cardinals.
The 6-foot-4, 310-pound in-state prospect told Cardinal Authority that he’ll be on campus the weekend of June 20. He’ll be visiting alongside several other Louisville commits, including Evan Hampton, Briggs Cherry, Jaydin Broadnax, Gavin Waddell, Brady Ballart, Jon Adams, and Bryten Close.
Cardinal Authority spoke with Merz after Highlands’ Blue-White spring game earlier this month.
This offseason brought a new challenge for Merz. After playing right guard last year, the 6-foot-4, 305-pound lineman has been training at center, embracing both the physical demands and the leadership that come with the position.
“It’s going well,” Merz said, adding that he enjoys being a leader. “I like the responsibility. Give it to me—I can handle it. Whatever the team needs, I’ll do it.”
Although he watched from the sideline during the Blue-White game, Merz’s leadership presence was still evident.
“I always try my best to lead where I can,” he said.

Merz was instrumental in helping Highlands reach the Kentucky 5A semifinals last season, where they finished with an 11-3 record. As he heads into his senior year, he has one clear goal.
“I want a ring,” Merz said. “We feel good about this season. We’ve got a lot of returning players and we’ve worked hard all offseason—lifting, conditioning, everything. We’re excited.”
