Cam Fowler’s move to St. Louis has been nothing short of a success.

After spending his entire career — 991 games — with the Anaheim Ducks, Fowler was traded to the St. Louis Blues in December and quietly delivered one of the league’s top performances by a defenseman.

Since joining the Blues, he ranked among the top 10 defensemen in points (36) during the regular season, capped his 1,000th NHL game by scoring twice in the Winter Classic at Wrigley Field, and led St. Louis in playoff scoring with 10 points. Only Dallas’ Mikko Rantanen (12), Winnipeg’s Kyle Connor (12), Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon (11), and Edmonton’s Connor McDavid (11) produced more in the opening round.

“You add someone like Fowler who immediately impacts your team and slides into your top defensive pairings — really a top-2 role — and then performs like one of the best in the league at his position from day one… we feel confident in our top four on defense right now,” said Blues President and GM Doug Armstrong.

Fowler is entering the final year of his contract but expressed strong interest in staying longer.

Cam Fowler Has Been A Real Steal for the St. Louis Blues

“Absolutely,” Fowler said. “Those talks will happen over the summer with Doug and the hockey ops staff, but I’d love to stay as long as they want me here. I can’t say enough about this organization, this city, the fans — what it means to be a Blue. It’s been a great experience.”

Armstrong praised Fowler’s character and conditioning: “He’s a high-level athlete and a quality person, and I’m seeing more of that every day. He fits into our plans for next season, and we’ll evaluate things beyond that.”

Fowler echoed the sentiment: “I’m thrilled with how everything has worked out. My family and I feel at home here. I truly feel like part of the team, and the way the guys welcomed me made it an easy transition. I’m really thankful — and excited about what’s ahead for this group.”
