Former LSU Tigers wide receiver Kyren Lacy passed away at the age of 24 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound while in his car on April 12, according to ESPN.

Lacy began his college football career with the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, playing two seasons from 2020 to 2021 before transferring to LSU in 2022. Over three seasons with the Tigers, he accumulated 1,692 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns, including 866 yards and nine touchdowns during his standout senior season.

Lacy had been preparing for a potential NFL future, but legal issues stemming from a fatal car crash on December 17 prevented him from receiving an invitation to the NFL Combine. He surrendered to authorities on January 13 and was released on bail prior to his death, per ESPN.

In a heartfelt tribute shared on Instagram, Lacy’s mother expressed the deep pain of losing her son. “This pain is unbearable,” she wrote alongside an image of Kyren with angel wings. “I miss my baby so much. Everything reminds me of you. I love you son.” She added, “If I had my way, I would have never shared you with the world. But your talent, love for others, and humbleness made the world notice your light.” She ended her message with, “It’s still us against the world always. Momma love you Kyren Lacy. 💔💔”

Garrett Nussmeier, LSU’s starting quarterback and Lacy’s former teammate, showed his support by commenting with two heart emojis on her post. Nussmeier, 23, played alongside Lacy during the 2024 season when the Tigers finished with a 9-4 record and is set to return as the team’s starting quarterback.
