BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Back in March, Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane made it clear: wide receiver Keon Coleman needs to elevate his game.
“Keon had a bit of a rollercoaster rookie season,” McDermott said during the NFL Combine. “He started off strong, was building momentum, but then got hurt. After that, things were a bit inconsistent.”
Beane echoed that sentiment, saying, “Sure, there are plays he probably wishes he could redo. And yes, there are areas he has to improve. But he’s a fierce competitor, and I believe he’ll return with a renewed focus, determined to silence any critics.”
And proving those critics wrong is exactly what Coleman intends to do.
“I hold myself to a high standard,” Coleman said. “And it means a lot to know my coaches do too — we’re aligned on that.”
In the early stages of OTAs, Coleman has already shown noticeable improvement, according to his teammates and coaches.
“I’ve loved his attitude — the questions he’s asking, his willingness to try new roles,” said offensive coordinator Joe Brady. “He’s developing. But once the pads come on, that’ll be the true test.”
Cornerback Tre’Davious White added, “You can see the difference in his physique. When players change like that, it shows they’re serious. That’s how you know he’s putting in the effort to grow into the best version of himself.”
Whether it’s in the gym or on the practice field, Coleman is fully focused on moving forward.
“It’s a new season,” Coleman said. “The goal is to handle the easy wins, take each week as it comes, and deal with challenges when they arrive. We’ve got a lot of pieces in the mix, and now it’s time to shake things up and bring the full picture together.”
