Paige Bueckers continued her unbeaten run at Mohegan Sun Arena on Friday, helping the Dallas Wings edge out the Connecticut Sun 86-83. The No. 1 overall pick showcased why she’s considered one of the league’s brightest young stars, finishing with 21 points, seven assists, and two steals while shooting 43.8% from the floor.
Rookie teammate Aziaha James, in her second career start, also impressed—recording 17 points, five rebounds, and five assists on 71.4% shooting. Their performances powered the Wings to their first set of back-to-back wins this season, following an 80-71 win over the Golden State Valkyries earlier in the week.

However, the game also marked a first for Bueckers—her first career technical foul. After draining a mid-range jumper, she clapped at an official, believing she was fouled on the play. The referee quickly issued the tech.

Speaking after the game, Bueckers explained the moment: “I clapped twice and said ‘And one!’ And [the ref] said I clapped in his face. That’s it,” she said, via Maggie Vanoni on X.
Despite the incident, Bueckers stayed composed and continued to lead her team. After the final buzzer, she took time to sign autographs for fans before leaving the arena.
This game was Bueckers’ final appearance in Connecticut for the season. The next matchup between the Wings and Sun will take place in Texas at College Park Center.
Meanwhile, the Sun’s struggles continued with their fifth straight loss, dropping their record to 2-11 on the season.
