This is the second time in just two days that the North Carolina Tar Heels have offered a scholarship to the son of a former NBA player.
After recently extending an offer to Class of 2026 standout Tajh Ariza — the son of longtime NBA veteran Trevor Ariza — Hubert Davis and the UNC coaching staff have now turned their attention to another legacy prospect.
Four-star wing Bryson Howard announced on social media that he has received an offer from the Tar Heels. Howard is the son of former Wake Forest star and 10-year NBA veteran Josh Howard, who was the 29th overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft.

A 6-foot-5, 200-pound prospect from Frisco, Texas, Bryson Howard is currently ranked No. 28 overall in the 2026 class by 247Sports and is the No. 2 player in the state of Texas. His recruitment has gained momentum, with major programs jumping into the mix over the last couple of weeks. Since June 13, he’s picked up offers from:
- Maryland
- Michigan
- Duke
- UConn
- Virginia
- Rutgers
- Kentucky
- North Carolina
These are just a few of the schools involved, as Howard now holds close to 20 offers — including one from his father’s alma mater — with more expected as interest continues to grow.
247Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein sees plenty of upside in Howard’s game. He describes the athletic lefty as a high-motor wing with great positional size and a frame that’s still developing. Howard is a downhill attacker, capable of finishing through contact, throwing down lobs, and knocking down jumpers — even while moving. On defense, he’s highly engaged and covers ground well, though there’s room for improvement in his positioning.

UNC has been highly active on the recruiting trail, targeting talent in both the 2026 and 2027 classes. Howard, with his athleticism and two-way upside, would be a valuable addition to the Tar Heels, especially with a potential need at the wing spot looming in future seasons.
