The Detroit Tigers hold two first-round picks in the upcoming MLB Draft, giving them another opportunity to add to what many consider the best farm system in baseball.
Detroit has a strong track record of developing first-round talent into major leaguers, and with this year’s No. 24 and No. 34 overall picks, they’ll look to continue that trend. The No. 34 selection comes in Competitive Balance Round A, positioned between the first and second rounds.

In its latest mock draft, Baseball America projects the Tigers to select high school outfielder Slater de Brun from Summit High School in Oregon at No. 24. De Brun has been linked to the Tigers in previous mock drafts and is praised for his speed and potential to stick in center field. Writer Carlos Collazo even described Detroit as the “high end of outcomes” for the speedy outfielder.

With the No. 34 pick, the mock has the Tigers taking Riley Quick, a right-handed pitcher from Alabama. Quick, a second-team All-SEC selection, posted an 8-3 record with a 3.92 ERA across 14 starts in 2025, with 70 strikeouts and 24 walks in 62 innings. Opponents hit .263 against him. After missing most of 2024 due to elbow surgery, Quick’s stock has rebounded thanks to a strong return in 2025. Collazo noted the lack of college arms late in the first round could push Quick into the top 35.
Detroit’s recent draft history has been impressive: all first-rounders from 2018–2022 have reached the majors — including Casey Mize (2018), Riley Greene (2019), Spencer Torkelson (2020), Jackson Jobe (2021), and Jace Jung (2022). Jung is currently playing in Triple-A, while Jobe is working his way back from Tommy John surgery.
The Tigers’ most recent top picks came from the high school ranks: Max Clark (2023) is currently with High-A West Michigan, and Bryce Rainer (2024) had his season cut short due to shoulder surgery while playing for Class-A Lakeland.
The 2025 MLB Draft will take place on Sunday and Monday, July 13-14, during All-Star Weekend in Atlanta.
