The Texas Rangers will be represented by just one player at this year’s MLB All-Star Game, as star pitcher Jacob deGrom has been selected to participate in the July 15 event at Truist Park in Atlanta, according to an announcement by Major League Baseball on Sunday.

deGrom, a two-time Cy Young Award winner and former National League Rookie of the Year, is no stranger to the Midsummer Classic. He made four previous All-Star appearances during his time with the New York Mets, but this marks his first selection as a member of the American League and his first All-Star nod since 2021.

Rangers' Jacob deGrom is 'perfect pitcher' when healthy

Now 37 years old and in his first full season back from his second Tommy John surgery in 2023, deGrom is putting together a dominant campaign that echoes his award-winning years in 2018 and 2019. Through 17 starts, he holds a 9-2 record with a stellar 2.13 ERA, 100 strikeouts, and just 21 walks over 101.1 innings. Just last week, he made history by becoming the first pitcher in the modern era to log 14 consecutive starts allowing six or fewer hits and two or fewer earned runs.

deGrom will join an AL All-Star starting lineup that features Seattle’s Cal Raleigh at catcher, Toronto’s Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at first base, Detroit’s Gleyber Torres at second, Oakland’s Jacob Wilson at shortstop, Cleveland’s José Ramírez at third, and Baltimore’s Ryan O’Hearn as the designated hitter. The starting outfield consists of New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge, along with Detroit Tigers outfielders Riley Greene and Javier Báez.

Representing the National League will be Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Will Smith and first baseman Freddie Freeman, Arizona’s Ketel Marte at second, New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor, San Diego’s Manny Machado at third, and Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani as the DH. The NL’s outfield includes Chicago Cubs’ Pete Crow-Armstrong in center, Kyle Tucker in right, and Atlanta’s Ronald Acuña Jr. rounding out the trio.
