LSU WBB: Kim Mulkey, LSU Land Trio of Commitments in NCAA Transfer Portal
LSU women’s basketball, under the leadership of Coach Kim Mulkey, made significant moves in the transfer portal, securing three talented additions to their roster. Headlining the trio is Kailyn Gilbert, a proven scorer who averaged 15 points per game at Arizona.
Joining Gilbert are Shayeann Day-Wilson from Miami and Mjracle Shepphard from Mississippi State, further strengthening LSU’s perimeter depth and overall roster.
These transfers complement the previously announced signings of forward Jersey Wolfenbarger and local standout Jada Richard, enhancing LSU’s lineup for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

Mjracle Sheppard: Guard, 5-10, Kent, Washington
Mjracle Sheppard, hailing from Kent, Washington, is set to make her mark with the LSU Tigers after spending her freshman year at Mississippi State.
During her debut season with Mississippi State, Sheppard showcased her skills on both ends of the court, averaging 5.1 points, 2.1 assists, and amassing an impressive 48 steals. She demonstrated her scoring ability by reaching double figures in three games, including a career-high 14-point performance against Jacksonville State. Additionally, Sheppard’s defensive prowess was evident as she recorded 3+ steals in six games, highlighted by a career-high 7 steals against Kennesaw State.

Before her collegiate career, Sheppard attended Montverde Academy in Florida, where she emerged as a four-star recruit. She played a pivotal role in Montverde’s journey to the 2021-22 National Championship, leading the team in assists with 4.2 per game and contributing 7.2 points per game. Notably, she also led the team in steals with 2.6 per game, playing a crucial role in securing the championship title for Montverde.
Kailyn Gilbert: Guard, 5-8, Tampa Bay, Florida
Gilbert will come to LSU after spending the previous two seasons at Arizona. After averaging 4.9 points as a freshman, Gilbert saw a big jump to 15.1 points per game during her sophomore season. She had a total of 88 assists during her two seasons in Tucson.
She scored over 20 points in six games during her sophomore season and earned one Pac 12 Player of the Week honor. Just as Gilbert saw her scoring output take a jump from her freshman season to sophomore season, her assists went from 1.1 per game as a freshman to 2.3 during this past season.
Gilbert finished her high school career at IMG Academy. Throughout her high school career she was a three-time First Team All-State selection and two-time Hillsborough County Player of the Year. She was ranked at the No. 31 player in her class by ESPN HoopGurlz in the class of 2022.
Shayeann Day-Wilson: Guard, 5-6, Toronto, Ontario
Shayeann Day-Wilson, a highly accomplished guard from Toronto, Ontario, brings an impressive resume to LSU after a collegiate journey that started at Duke, continued at Miami, and now leads her to Baton Rouge.
Throughout her three seasons in NCAA basketball, Day-Wilson has consistently demonstrated her scoring ability and playmaking skills. She has averaged 10.8 points per game, dishing out 300 assists and tallying 79 steals in a total of 93 games played, with 71 starts.
During her time at Duke, Day-Wilson made an immediate impact, earning ACC Freshman of the Year honors in her debut season. She led all ACC freshmen with impressive averages of 12.7 points and 3.7 assists per game, garnering recognition from both ACC coaches and national media outlets. Her standout performances earned her multiple ACC Freshman of the Week honors and a USBWA National Freshman of the Week accolade.
In addition to her collegiate achievements, Day-Wilson boasts an impressive high school career, where she led Crestwood Prep to consecutive OSBA High School State Championships. She was regarded as the top-rated Canadian guard in the class of 2021, earning a No. 41 overall ranking by ESPN HoopGurlz. Day-Wilson’s talent also shone on the international stage, representing Canada on various national teams, including the U23 team that clinched gold at the GLOBLJAM International Basketball Showcase in 2022 and the U19 team that competed in the 2021 FIBA World Cup in Hungary.
With her experience, accolades, and proven ability to excel at the highest levels of competition, Day-Wilson is poised to make a significant impact for LSU women’s basketball. Her scoring, playmaking, and leadership will undoubtedly be valuable assets for the Tigers as they aim for success in the upcoming season.
