Lately, the St. Louis Cardinals have begun to look to the future. The company has created the greatest farm system it can by putting a strong emphasis on scouting, drafting, and nurturing its younger players.

Although they now have various promising talents in the works, none are more significant than JJ Wetherholt, the club’s top prospect. After three seasons as a successful player for the University of West Virginia, the slugger was selected seventh overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Even if last year’s draft is just over a month away, it’s never too early to make predictions about the selections for the next year. Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report created an early 2026 mock draft and projected that the Cardinals would select Tyler Bell, another NCAA outstanding shortstop.
Tyler Bell could be versatile for the Cardinals
Like JJ Wetherholt, Tyler Bell is a shortop, which is something that fans will notice right away. Bell can play a variety of positions, though, not just shortstop. He could be able to play many infield positions and, if necessary, get some outfield practice.

Along with being a fantastic batsman, he can move quickly enough on the basepaths to intimidate defenses. Bell is accustomed to playing against some of the greatest teams in college baseball because he was a member of both the SEC and the Collegiate National Team.

Bell being selected in the middle of the first round might be a fantastic addition to the team, even though some supporters might like to see another position taken.
