The Minnesota Vikings’ receiving corps is facing some challenges with Justin Jefferson sidelined by a hamstring injury and Jordan Addison serving a three-game suspension. A trade with the Indianapolis Colts, however, could help address these concerns. Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay suggested a potential deal in which the Vikings acquire wide receiver Alec Pierce in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick—a move that would be a major coup for Minnesota.

Kay notes, “The Vikings fit the bill as a potential suitor for Pierce, given the squad is dealing with a three-week suspension to Jordan Addison and could be without Jalen Nailor while he recovers from a hand injury. Pierce, a 2022 second-round pick, still has plenty of upside, though limited opportunities in Indianapolis due to poor quarterback play have restrained his production. A fresh start in Minnesota could allow him to thrive as a tertiary option.”

Pierce, standing 6-foot-3, had an impressive 2024 season with 37 receptions for 824 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging a league-leading 22.3 yards per catch. So why might the Colts be willing to part with him? Pierce is entering the final year of his contract, and Indianapolis has a deep receiving corps that includes Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs, and Adonai Mitchell, making him potentially expendable—especially if the team is leaning toward a soft rebuild due to quarterback concerns.

The challenge for Minnesota is that re-signing Pierce next offseason could be difficult. The Vikings have already committed to Jefferson, Addison will be eligible for an extension following 2025, and Nailor is set to hit free agency next March.

Still, if Minnesota believes it can compete with J.J. McCarthy under center this season, adding Pierce might provide the ideal set of weapons to make that happen. With the Vikings clearly in the market for a wideout, it will be interesting to see whether any trade materializes.
