In the hopes of elevating their bullpen in the final stretch, the New York Mets acquired Ryan Helsley. So far, he has done the exact opposite. He has a 10.38 ERA, three defeats, and four blown saves in 11 games with the Mets.

Carlos Mendoza said that he believed Helsley was tipping pitches following his subpar performance on Tuesday, and Helsley concurred.

According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, Helsley admitted that he believed he was tipping pitches against the Atlanta Braves as well, but he believes he understands what he has to do to resolve his problems.

Edwin Díaz has been outstanding this season, thus the Mets do not need Helsley, an All-Star closer, in that position. Helsley and Díaz might be a formidable tandem in the bullpen if they can work things out. Díaz has an ERA of 1.60.

Díaz discussed Helsley’s difficulties.

Díaz told reporters, “I’ve been through that,” in a video that SNY shared on X. “I would advise him to play with his head up. We have faith in him. He is a pitcher that we are aware of. He is among the game’s top closers. Even though he is now having some difficult times, we have faith in him.

Díaz was not his powerful self last season and missed the whole 2023 season. But this year, he made a great comeback and was selected to the All-Star team for the third time in his career. After the season, Helsley will be a free agent, and his problems could be affecting his market. For the sake of the team as well as himself, he must resolve the situation.
