The Texas Rangers remain in the playoff picture, albeit just barely. Sitting at 68-67, they trail the American League West leader by 6.5 games and are 4.5 games out of a Wild Card berth. Team president of baseball operations Chris Young acknowledged the club’s inconsistency this season but remains optimistic about their chances.
“In my heart, I don’t think we’ve played our best baseball yet,” Young told SportsDay Rangers. “I believe that’s still ahead of us. If it is, then we have a real shot to push for the postseason—and that’s exactly what I’m expecting. But to get there, we need to find the consistency that good teams have. Right now, we’re a .500 club because we haven’t done that.”
Texas has faced major setbacks along the way. Starter Nathan Eovaldi is out for the year with an injury, while Corey Seager recently underwent surgery and his return remains uncertain. Competing without two All-Star caliber players makes a playoff push an uphill battle, but Young insists it’s still within reach if the team can steady itself.
The Rangers’ upcoming schedule will be crucial: a three-game road series against the Oakland Athletics in Sacramento starting Friday at 10:05 PM EST, followed by another three-game set with the Arizona Diamondbacks. After that, they return home for a pivotal weekend matchup with the division-rival Houston Astros.
