2025 has been a tale of two halves for Kodai Senga, a pitcher with the Mets.
Senga was 10–4 with a 1.39 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 77 2/3 innings from the beginning of the season until July 21. Since then, Senga has a terrible 6.56 ERA, 35 strikeouts in 35 2/3 innings, and a 4–4 record.

Senga will be optioned to the Triple A Syracuse Mets, New York said on Friday. Catcher Francisco Alvarez was activated by the Mets from the 10-day disabled list in a similar move.
After a successful career in Japan, Senga made an immediate impression when he moved to New York for the 2023 season. He finished 12–7 with a 2.98 ERA and 202 strikeouts in 166 1/3 innings, despite the Mets’ struggles. He was runner-up for Rookie of the Year and eighth in the National League Cy Young voting.
His 2024 season was cut short by injuries, but he seemed to go back to his best at the start of 2025. Over time, that altered, and on Sunday he gave up a season-high five earned runs against the Marlins.

With 22 games remaining in the season, New York leads the Giants by four games and presently holds the NL’s last wild-card slot.
