BREAKING NEWS: Falcons sign talented defensive back
The Atlanta Falcons have completed their 90-man roster with their latest signing on Wednesday afternoon, adding cornerback Anthony Johnson to bolster their secondary as they prepare for organized team activities and mandatory minicamp.
Johnson, 24, has previously spent time on the practice squads of the Saints and Packers but did not play in an NFL regular-season game in 2023. An undrafted free agent from Louisville and Virginia, Johnson stands at 6’2” and 205 pounds and had a productive final college season in 2022, highlighted by an impressive Senior Bowl performance where he intercepted a pass from quarterback Malik Cunningham and returned it for a touchdown.

Although Johnson has yet to secure a prominent role in the NFL, he will now have the opportunity to compete in Atlanta. He will be vying with several other players for a roster spot and potentially a position on the practice squad. His addition aligns with the Falcons’ goal of incorporating young defensive backs, giving him a chance to compete against both undrafted free agents and veterans like Mike Hughes.
At the very least, Johnson adds valuable depth to the Falcons’ roster for the summer. Welcome him warmly and enjoy the momentary completeness of the team’s roster.
