BREAKING NEWS: Rutgers adds another elite player, new Big Ten opponent ranked in top five.
Rutgers transfer Mawot Mag is nearing a decision on his new team for the 2024-25 season. According to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, Mag has narrowed his list of potential destinations to five schools, including a new Big Ten competitor.
The schools in consideration are USC, BYU, Clemson, San Diego State, and Southern Miss. This selection leaves open the possibility of Mag facing his former Rutgers team in the upcoming season.
During his fourth season with the Scarlet Knights, Mag averaged 9.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game, playing in only 17 of the team’s 32 games. His season debut was notable, occurring on December 9 against Seton Hall in the Hardwood Classic.
Additionally, Rutgers will encounter another former player next season. Cliff Omoruyi transferred to Alabama in early May, and the Scarlet Knights are slated to play the Crimson Tide at the Players Era Festival in November. Rutgers is one of eight teams in the event, divided into two groups of four, including Alabama, Notre Dame, and Houston.
Mag’s final season with Rutgers ended on a disappointing note, particularly towards the end. His new team’s announcement is highly anticipated, especially with the potential for a reunion match against Rutgers.
