BREAKING: Cubs to make upgrades to spring training facility
Mesa officials, in collaboration with the Chicago Cubs, have filed paperwork with the city’s planning department for enhancements to Sloan Park, the Cubs’ spring training venue, as reported by the Phoenix Business Journal.
The Cubs plan to introduce new amenities and expand upon the current facilities within the ballpark.
Situated at 2330 W. Rio Salado Parkway and inaugurated in 2014, Sloan Park is owned by Mesa.
What upgrades are planned for the Chicago Cubs’ spring training home of Sloan Park?
The Cubs intend to construct a 22,000-square-foot pitching lab at their spring training site. This lab, housed in a ClearSpan metal building, will feature four pitching areas, a sprint track, a video room, two restrooms, and additional storage and support spaces. Furthermore, the clubhouse will undergo expansion, incorporating a locker room, shower facilities, and a lounge area for umpires.
Additionally, it will include a multipurpose room, an office, and dedicated locker rooms, restrooms, and showers for female staff members. Populous, a global architectural and design firm specializing in sports facilities, is collaborating with the team on this project. While the plans are currently in the pre-submittal phase, further details regarding the project are forthcoming.
In 2024, the Cubs led in attendance for the Cactus League, with Sloan Park welcoming a total of 241,215 baseball enthusiasts to the stadium.
