Among the standout performers in the Championship last year were Sammie Szmodics and Crysencio Summerville, with Ipswich Town’s Leif Davis also deserving recognition. As a left-back, Davis was instrumental in his team’s success, contributing an impressive 21 assists in 44 games. Under Kieran McKenna’s aggressive strategy, the Tractor Boys achieved consecutive promotions in a short span.

Ryan Sessegnon for Tottenham

Despite Davis solidifying his position on the left flank for Ipswich’s upcoming Premier League season, McKenna understands that the team will face significant challenges. Ensuring depth in the squad is crucial to avoid relegation.

Therefore, acquiring an experienced player to provide competition could be a wise move. This new addition, once a Championship star like Davis, may now bring valuable depth and resilience to the squad.

Ipswich to sign key Davis rival

According to a report from GIVEMESPORT last week, Ryan Sessegnon might be allowed to leave Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer this summer, despite previously costing the club a staggering £25 million.

At that time, Sessegnon had just completed a sensational stint with his boyhood club Fulham, where the now 24-year-old was the highly sought-after rising star.

However, after enduring a couple of injury-plagued seasons at Spurs and making only one appearance this campaign, the former Fulham player could be set to depart without a transfer fee. GIVEMESPORT also notes that Ipswich, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Crystal Palace are interested in Sessegnon, despite his injury history.

Ryan-Sessegnon-Fulham

According to a report from GIVEMESPORT last week, Ryan Sessegnon might be allowed to leave Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer this summer, despite the North London club once paying an astounding £25 million for him.

Back then, Sessegnon was coming off a remarkable period at his boyhood club Fulham, where the now 24-year-old was the hot prospect everyone was eager to sign.

However, following a couple of injury-ridden seasons at Spurs, with only one appearance this campaign, the former Fulham star might depart for nothing. GIVEMESPORT also highlights that Ipswich, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Crystal Palace are interested in Sessegnon, despite his injury challenges.

Why Sessegnon can push Davis all the way

This move could push a comfortable Davis to new heights in the Premier League, potentially enhancing his performance. It might also give Nathan Broadhead sleepless nights about his starting left-wing position, given Sessegnon’s impressive statistics as an attacking player during his time with Fulham.

Reflecting on his breakout 2017/18 campaign, where Sessegnon scored 16 goals and provided eight assists to help Fulham win promotion, the 24-year-old exhibits a similar full-throttle style to that of his potential new teammate, Davis.

However, Sessegnon could offer McKenna even more than Davis has provided in their recent success. Before his ill-fated move to Spurs, Sessegnon showcased his versatility by starting in various positions for Fulham, scoring 18 goals in total from either left midfield or left wing, in addition to his defensive roles.

Interestingly, Sessegnon even played as a centre-forward once for his former West London outfit. His continued excellence at Craven Cottage led Slavisa Jokanovic, his previous boss at Fulham, to describe him as “special” after an assist and a goal from the versatile star clinched Fulham’s progression to the Championship play-off final in 2018.

Fast forward six years, and Sessegnon’s career has been anything but smooth. With only 57 appearances for Spurs, his move to Tottenham is one he likely regrets to a large extent. However, he could revive his stuttering career with Ipswich if given a lifeline at Portman Road.

Despite his recent injury struggles, Sessegnon brings valuable experience to the newly promoted side, having made 73 top-flight appearances throughout his career. McKenna, who successfully revitalized the once-discarded Davis from Leeds, will aim to do the same with this potential free agent. If all goes well, this signing could prove to be a masterstroke.
