Recruitment Updates: Rutgers Football Lands 9 Commit star players
Coach Schiano and the Rutgers coaching staff have been on fire recently, securing nine commitments in just two days. Four recruits joined the program on Saturday, followed by five more on Sunday.
Weekend Commitment Timeline
It all started with Miron Gurman, a 6-foot-6, 255-pound defensive end from Spencerport, New York, who holds a three-star rating from 247sports.com. Originally an offensive tackle, he was recruited by Schiano for the defensive side.
Following Gurman was Braxton Kyle, a 6-foot-3, 320-pound defensive tackle from North Gwinnett in Suwanee, Georgia. Also rated as a three-star by 247sports, Kyle announced his commitment on Twitter, choosing Rutgers over Appalachian State and Bowling Green.
The defensive line received further reinforcement on Saturday with Raedyn Bruens, a 6-foot-4, 241-pound edge rusher from Lynn Haven, Florida. Rated three stars by 247sports, Bruens chose Rutgers over Miami despite late offers from other schools.
Rutgers’ second commitment from Georgia came in the form of Micheal Clayton, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound cornerback from Warner Robins. Clayton, rated three stars by 247sports, boasts an impressive 4.47 40-yard dash time.
Sunday saw five more commitments for Schiano:
From Georgia, Rutgers secured its third Peach State commitment with 6-foot-4 defensive end Chase Linton from Atlanta, who committed immediately after his official visit and holds a three-star rating from 247sports.
Next was Vernon Allen, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound receiver from Baltimore City College. Rated three stars by 247sports, Allen recorded 74 catches for 1,123 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior. He chose Rutgers over Duke, Syracuse, and Wisconsin.
Back in New Jersey, Rutgers landed Bergen Catholic prospect Chris Vigna. The 6-foot-5, 295-pound interior offensive lineman, rated three stars, chose Rutgers over West Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Pittsburgh.
Joining the offensive line was N-Kye Wynn from Muskegon, Michigan. The 6-foot-5, 277-pound interior offensive lineman, also a three-star, registered 67 pancake blocks in high school and chose Rutgers over Arkansas.
The final commitment of the weekend was Jourdin Houston, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound wide receiver from St. Thomas More in Connecticut. A three-star recruit, Houston committed to Rutgers a week earlier than planned, choosing them over Penn State, Michigan State, and Maryland.
The Georgia to Rutgers connection
Rutgers has excelled in Georgia this weekend, securing more recruits from the Peach State than from their home base of New Jersey. Since Coach Schiano’s return, Rutgers has also recruited effectively in Florida and Michigan. Although they need to improve their recruiting efforts in New Jersey, establishing a strong connection in Georgia will significantly benefit the Knights as they face increasing competition in the challenging Big Ten Conference.
