BREAKING NEWS: Tigers option reliever to Toledo as their 33-years old key man who signed one-year, $3.25 million contract last December returns.

The Detroit Tigers have reactivated right-handed reliever Shelby Miller following a three-week period on the injured list.

As a corresponding move, right-hander Mason Englert has been sent to Triple-A Toledo.

Shortly after being placed on the IL, Miller underwent a “hydro dissection procedure,” which involves injecting fluid to remove scar tissue from the right ulnar nerve in his arm.

He then pitched in a couple of rehab games with Toledo to regain his form.

The 33-year-old veteran signed a one-year, $3.25 million contract with the Tigers last December.

This year, Miller has a 3-4 record with a 4.41 ERA over 16 1/3 innings, recording 15 strikeouts and six walks.

Englert, who was recalled after the Tigers demoted struggling former closer Alex Lange, spent 11 days with the major league team. During this time, he allowed three runs on five hits over six innings, striking out five and walking one.

Englert, 24, was selected from the Texas Rangers in the Rule 5 Draft after the 2022 season.

Despite never pitching above Double-A, he made the team following an impressive spring training in 2023 and was quickly placed in high-leverage situations early in his rookie season.

However, his velocity and effectiveness diminished as the season progressed. He was placed on the injured list on July 24 and did not pitch again in 2023.

Englert has struck out 37 percent of the batters he’s faced this year in Toledo.
