Ryan Helsley was dominant at the start of the season with the St. Louis Cardinals. During his 36 innings pitched, he had 21 saves and 41 strikeouts, maintaining a 3.00 ERA.
The New York Mets traded for him because they believed such kind of performance may strengthen their bullpen. He has had a lot of trouble with his new club, though.
Helsley has made 18 appearances for the Mets as a pitcher. His future in New York is probably ruined because he has a 9.60 ERA during this run, giving up 16 earned runs in just 15 innings worked.

At the end of the season, Ryan Helsley will be a free agent. He probably buried a lot of his worth in recent weeks, and his weak performances in New York have not been great.
That does not preclude a team from taking a chance on him, though. Zach Pressnell of Sports Illustrated contends that he may be a fantastic choice to end games for the Toronto Blue Jays in the next campaign.
“The bullpen is the area on the Blue Jays’ roster that needs the most attention. Despite being stacked from head to toe, they have been let down by the bullpen this season. It would be ideal for Toronto to pursue a great reliever like Ryan Helsley in the summer. The Blue Jays may benefit from Helsley’s terrible second half, which has somewhat devalued him in free agency. Helsley would be the ideal candidate to become the team’s next closer, and Toronto could add a couple elite guys to the bullpen.”
Without question, Toronto needs bullpen support, but might Helsley be the solution? Devin Williams and Raisel Iglesias, who supporters could consider to be the better choices, will also be available.
