Marcus Maye has found his next team, signing with the Dolphins as reported by Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz.

Maye was released by the Saints earlier this offseason, concluding his two-year tenure in New Orleans. Although there were initial reports of interest from several teams, including the Titans, there had been little news about Maye for nearly three months. Schultz notes that multiple teams showed interest in Maye, but he ultimately chose the Dolphins, aiming to join a potential Super Bowl contender in Miami.

The Saints had signed Maye to a three-year, $22.5 million contract in March 2022, but he played only 17 games over two seasons due to injuries and legal issues. His three-game suspension last season was related to a DUI arrest from his time with the Jets, and he was also arrested for aggravated assault with a firearm in fall 2022.

After a 2023 season in which Maye was limited to seven games, the Saints decided to move on. While his performance included two interceptions, Pro Football Focus ranked him 80th out of 95 qualifying safeties. In contrast, his 2022 season saw him ranked as the 26th-best safety by PFF.

Maye, a former second-round pick, had an inconsistent five-year stint with the Jets, where he was considered a top-20 safety between 2018 and 2020. In 2020, PFF even ranked him fifth at his position. However, his performance declined in 2021 before a season-ending Achilles injury.

The Dolphins are not expected to rely heavily on Maye. The team has also signed another former AFC East safety, Jordan Poyer, and plans to pair him with Jevon Holland in the starting lineup. The rest of their depth at the safety position includes Elijah Campbell, sixth-round rookie Patrick McMorris, and undrafted free agents Mark Perry and Jordan Colbert, positioning Maye as a key backup.
