BREAKING: Matthew Stafford reportedly Made Crucial contract decision with Rams

Matthew Stafford has seen his position drop among the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL, and he’s looking to change that.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Stafford is seeking a revised contract from the Los Angeles Rams. While he isn’t planning to hold out from training camp, the 36-year-old has made it clear to the team that he desires a new deal.

“The essential issue here is that Stafford, from what I understand, wants more guaranteed money,” Rapoport said Tuesday. “It also seems he wouldn’t mind a raise. He wants his contract adjusted.” Stafford is scheduled to earn $31 million this season, with no guaranteed money remaining after that. His current contract averages $40 million annually, placing him outside the top 10 at his position following recent high-value deals for other quarterbacks.

The latest of these was Trevor Lawrence, who secured $55 million per year with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Rumors have suggested the Rams might consider trading Stafford, but head coach Sean McVay dismissed those at the start of the offseason.

After being sidelined with an injury for the second half of the 2022 season, Stafford returned last year with 3,965 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He performed at a high level for much of the year, leading the Rams back to the playoffs. It would be surprising if the team doesn’t at least provide Stafford with more guaranteed money.
