BREAKING: Panthers Confirms Another Mega Deal With Dynamic Star
A journeyman defenseman is heading to the Sunshine State.
On Friday, Florida Panthers general manager Bill Zito announced that the team has signed defenseman Jaycob Megna to a one-year, two-way contract with a $775,000 cap hit for the 2024-25 season. This marks Megna’s fourth team in three seasons. He started the 2022-23 season with the San Jose Sharks before being traded to the Seattle Kraken. In early January, he was placed on waivers by the Kraken and picked up by the Chicago Blackhawks, where he finished the season with two assists in 44 games, tying for his second-most NHL appearances in a single season.
Megna began his professional career with the Anaheim Ducks organization, who drafted him in the seventh round of the 2012 NHL Draft. After over two seasons in the American Hockey League (AHL), Megna made his NHL debut with the Ducks during the 2016-17 season. He oscillated between the Ducks and their AHL affiliate, the San Diego Gulls, before signing a one-year contract with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2019. He then joined the San Jose Barracuda on an AHL contract the following season.

The Nebraska-Omaha product signed with the Sharks in July 2021 and saw significant NHL playing time with the team. He played a career-high 52 games during the 2022-23 season, including his stint with the Kraken.
In 185 NHL games, Megna has recorded four goals and 23 assists, with a career plus/minus of -17. In 370 AHL games, he has tallied 18 goals and 80 assists, including seven points in 39 Calder Cup Playoff games.
Megna also represented the United States at the 2022 IIHF Men’s World Championship, where he played eight games and contributed two assists.
